Geriatrics and Rehabilitation

The Geriatrics Unit focuses on treating elderly patients, typically those with acute medical emergencies or exacerbations of chronic conditions. The most frequently treated conditions include cardiovascular diseases, such as acute heart failure, ischemic heart disease, and arrhythmias. Respiratory issues are also common, including pneumonia, exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, and pulmonary embolisms.

Neurological conditions, such as strokes and cerebral haemorrhages, are another major focus. The department also manages metabolic disorders, including uncontrolled diabetes, acute renal failure, and severe electrolyte imbalances. Infectious diseases, particularly various septic states, are regularly treated as well.

Gastrointestinal problems, such as acute colitis and complicated diverticulitis, are also addressed. Additionally, the Unit handles complex oncological conditions and common geriatric syndromes, including recurrent falls of uncertain origin, syncope, and acute dehydration.

Overall, the Geriatrics Unit is equipped to manage a wide range of complex conditions, providing comprehensive care to improve patient outcomes and quality of life.
