In 2018, the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli has been recognized as a "research hospital" (Istituto di Ricovero e Cura a Carattere Scientifico/Institute of Hospitalization and Scientific Care, IRCCS) by the Italian Ministry of Health for two research disciplines, "Personalized Medicine" and "Innovative Biotechnology", which represent the most innovative frontiers in today’s medical sciences, with significant impact on therapies and prevention.
