Policlinico Gemelli IRCCS di Roma

Endocrinology and Diabetology

The Endocrinology and Diabetes Unit provides assistance on every clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic aspect of Diabetes Mellitus. In fact, doctors, nurses, nutritionists, psychologists and podiatrists collaborate in the OU to optimize therapy and prevent complications.

Diabetes focus

The center has one of the largest patient series with Type 1 diabetes, both in multi-injection insulin therapy and in pump therapy. In fact, it boasts a long experience in the management of insulin therapy, through insulin pumps and integrated pump and sensor systems.

Training in the use of new technologies is therefore provided (insulin pumps, continuous blood glucose monitoring, flash glucose monitoring and home blood glucose monitoring according to precise personalized plans).

There is an outpatient clinic for the transition in order to effectively manage this delicate phase of transition from the pediatric diabetes center to the adult diabetes center.

For Type 2 diabetes, in addition to boasting a high number of cases and a high specialization in the use of old and new drugs, it offers a multidisciplinary approach to the disease, with the management of cardiovascular risk factors (hypertension and dyslipidemia) including the possible need to resort to bariatric surgery.
